2012 U.S. Women’s Open Golf Tournament Lodging at Port Washington Inn August 28, 2011

Base yourselves at the Port Washington Inn for the U.S. Women’s Open Golf Tournament in Kohler and let us get your day started with a breakfast that makes you feel like one of the pros!

The half hour between Port Washington and Kohler is just enough to get you out of the crowds of the event and into a calmer space with fewer waiting lines for restaurants, Lake Michigan’s shoreline to amble, and lake breezes to enjoy as you take advantage of the outdoor space of the inn.

This is a major event in our area so reserving rooms at the inn for this event involves different policies than the normal stay:

5.  The final 50% is due prior to January 1, 2012

6.  Payments are nonrefundable

7.  Guestrooms accommodate 2 adults and a reservation assumes the same two adults will occupy the room for the duration

8.  The following rates apply:

Top of the World Suite:   2 people, 2 beds, 2 bathrooms:  $350/night

Nature sometimes has a better plan August 27, 2011

Years ago we used landscape block to create a planting area on the southeast corner of the grounds of the inn.  A progression of plantings has enhanced this corner over the years and experience taught us that plants which love sun and heat and dry conditions are the ones happiest in this location.    We once thought we were in charge, but it turns out, of course, that Mother Nature is really in charge!  And her aesthetic is what we see here…..much more interesting than our original concept, we must admit.  She even deigned to revive a few snapdragon seeds leftover from several years ago to add little sparks of color to her tapestry.

Opalescent Lake Michigan at dusk from South Beach, Port Washington

Timing, as they say, is everything.  In the world of photography that is especially so and this photo is credited to chance, not planning!

Last weekend as Port Washington’s Maritime Festival came to a close late Sunday, Dave and I took off for a walk to enjoy the beneficent weather.  The tall ships were still in the harbor and we ventured to Upper Lake Park to enjoy the view, then crossed the festival grounds to South Beach where we were rewarded with this view of Lake Michigan.  Opalescent is the word that always comes to my mind when the lake’s surface reflects these subdued pastels.

South Beach is officially the launch area created for kayaks and canoes and, sure enough, four kayakers were paddling serenely in the calm waters.

Delectably cool breakfast finales delight our guests! August 3, 2011

Frozen raspberry yogurt offers you some healthy cool on a hot day!

Here at Port Washington Inn we are always looking for ways to enhance our guests’ stay.  When the weatherman turns up the heat and humidity outside, our professional ice cream machine comes to the rescue.  In it we can create the tastiest of cool treats to delight our guests at breakfast.  Typical choices are frozen yogurt or a sorbet.  Served up in a chilled dish with a heart shaped pastry and a sprig of fresh mint, this has been a favorite breakfast finale during this summer’s heatwave!
